Crown Victoria
The Crown Victoria is the most widely used automobiles in North American police departments due to the heavy duty nature of the car. This model is called the Ford Crown Victoria Police Inceptor. Another reason this particular car is used as police cars is that Crown Victoria has received the government's highest 5-Star crash test safety rating for the driver and front passenger for 10 years in a row (1996-2005).
The Crown Victoria Police Inceptor comes with ballistic door panels. These panels are not visible from the outside. The front doors of the car swing open and can be used as a shield from incoming bullets.
The 2004-2006 Crown Victoria Police Inceptors are 250 horsepower. This is due to the addition of a brand new air intake system that has been installed on the new models. The new air intake system includes an air box that with an integrated 80mm mass air flow (MAF) sensor that is part of the airbox lid. This allows for much more precise flow calibration and reduces the chances of air leakage.
The 2005 Crown Victoria Police Inceptors are the only year that has the AM/FM stereo antenna on the passenger side. Previous years as well as the newer models have the antenna mounted on the rear glass.
The Crown Victoria Police Inceptors comes without a speed governor which allows the vehicles to reach very high speeds. The Crown Victoria Police Interceptors also come with a heavy duty frame and body mounts, an aluminum drive shaft and usually a limited slip rear differential. All police interceptor vehicles also come with full stainless steel dual exhausts.
Ford Motor Company has announced that it is committed to the law enforcement community and that the Crown Victoria Police Inceptors will remain in production well into the future.
