Smoke detectors run off a 9-volt battery or a 120-volt house current.

Fire extinguishers are also important in fire safety. Heat, oxygen and fuel are all factors in a fire. To put out a fire, you need to eliminate one of these factors. Fire extinguishers are heavy metal containers filled with water or a smothering material. When you depress the lever at the top, the material inside is expelled by high pressure.

Fire blankets are another important part of fire safety equipment. Fire blankets are, of course, fire resistant. It is most useful in the kitchen. Just throw the blanket on the fire to help it from spreading or if a person is on fire cover them with it. Fire sprinklers are used in many businesses. They are mounted on the ceiling and turn on water when it senses a rise in temperature. These are good if there is a fire at night when no one is in the office. It will put the fire out. It is important to have a fire alarm as well so the fire department is notified.
